I am Miss Arianna Poindexter. A second semester junior at the
University of Missouri studying broadcast
journalism and political science. Since I began my college career,
I have devoted my time to academics and community service. I am a reporter at
the State Capitol for Missouri Digital News, the committee chair for the
National Association of Black Journalists, a member of the community service
organization, the Little Dress Association, and I’ve also been a reporter and
anchor at the local NBC affiliate KOMU 8 News. I am striving to gain excellent
media experience while in college to help make a difference in the media
industry. My aspiration is to be a mentor and role model for young girls with
similar aspirations as myself.
This semester, I will be participating
in the 2014 Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated Zeta Alpha Chapter’s, Miss
Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant. Not only will this pageant allow me to win
a scholarship to help offset the cost of tuition, but it also gives me the
opportunity to bond with other young ladies and serve as a role model in my
campus community.
Judging in the pageant is based on five
different segments: opening/introduction, swim wear, talent segment, eveningwear,
and an impromptu question. I would love if you were able to attend the pageant
on Friday, April 4, 2014, but with everyone’s busy spring schedules, I know
that attendance may be difficult. In addition to the segments, contestants are
judged by the number of ads that we sell. Your support in purchasing an ad that
will be placed in the ad book for the pageant would be greatly appreciated. The
ad book allows the opportunity of not only support, but business or personal
recognition by university students, professionals as well as members of the
community. The money collected will go
toward the scholarships that are awarded to the pageant winners.
I would love if you were able to attend
the pageant, but in the event that you cannot, I hope that you would help me in
reaching my goal of $1,200 in ad book sales. Ads range from $5-$60. I’ve
attached the breakdown of ad sales and an example of what ads will look like. Supporters
can pay by cash, check, or through my PayPal account.
I am very excited about this pageant
and I pray that my hard work doesn’t go unrecognized. Thank you all in advanced
for all of your help and support on my journey to become the next Miss Black
and Gold at the University of Missouri.
Warmest Regards,
Miss Arianna Poindexter
